PLAYING SNAKES AND LADDERS

Well, it’s very applicable and fun in teaching English especially those for children. The main device is of course the DICE. Make sure to make a big dice. When I applied this activity I prepared a 10 cm3 dice. Why? Because I applied this game on the floor in which the floor itself became a board for playing and the students just actively moved after rolling the dice. So, how to play? Well, it’s the same as an ordinary playing dice but instead of using paper as a board we use floor. Therefore, firstly, my students and I usually drew snakes and ladders. The students usually liked this process and they just enthusiastically asked me “where I should draw the ladder, or could I draw a long snake over here.”
Alright then, the board was ready. Now, it’s time to decide who went first. To decide which students went first and so forth. I usually decided by asking question related to subject that they had learnt during my class instead of rock scissor paper game. The student who answered firstly, he/she went first and so on.
The next step was similar as the ordinary snakes and ladders game. The student who got turn to roll the dice got the dice and rolled it. Then, he/ she just, moved based on the number on the dice. Well, when I applied this game I was teaching the students about vocabulary. In this game, the students did not only memorize the vocabulary I gave but they also should produce meaningful language like “this is a tomato, I like eating tomato, etc”. The student who cannot say a word got little punishment by steeping backward.
The teacher could participate in this game while he/ she monitored the game.
